>My reactions to the interview are mixed. I think Jian's questions were respectful and George reacted by getting defensive which is a protective response. I think once Jian heard that, he could have changed track. I expect throughout George's entire career, he has been criticized, ridiculed....not that Jian was doing this at all....but I would guess George's defensive reactions are somewhat automatic. I don't know anything about his time in prison, didn't know he'd been to prison. I thought his responses to the queries about addiction were good and he seemed willing to talk about that. He's a combative character, but I don't think he had any trouble taking care of himself, and that's just fine. It was an entertaining interview, and got me more interested in him as a person, an artist, so it was a successful interview, right? I want to know more about him. I was a fan in my twenties, and I am grateful that he has survived a difficult path. Just prison alone, regardless of fame or not, is a soul destroying experience for anyone, so the fact that he came out with this desire to make music in tact is fabulous.« less
I was impressed by Jian's ability to communicate calmly with a clearly upset Boy George.
I'd like to know how Jian does it. I particularly like the way that Jian tries to draw out his interviewees and does not intrude and make the interview about himself.
